Pioneers of the success
The history of the steel industry in the area around Ternitz dates back to the 18th century. In 1787 processing of iron was started here, in 1870, the Schoeller Stahlwerke were founded.
The wholesale merchant Alexander Ritter von Schoeller and the steel industrialist Johann Heinrich Bleckmann had, independently from one another, built up companies of worldwide reputation in the 19th century, which in 1924 merged to the Schoeller-Bleckmann Stahlwerke AG.
Farsightedness and sense for future-oriented innovations - factors of success of large companies -led to the next important step ten years later: the start of the production of seamless steel tubes.
In 1946, Schoeller-Bleckmann passed into the possession of the Republic of Austria. In the following years of economic upturn, the production capacity of the company was massively expanded with generous investments.
Competence in stainless steel
At the beginning of the 60's of the previous century, the production of seamless stainless steel tubes started in Ternitz.
The merger of the stainless-steel-producing companies Schoeller-Bleckmann, Böhler and Styria to the Vereinigte Edelstahlwerke AG (VEW) in 1975, was countermanded at the end of the 80's. Since 1st January 1991, the Schoeller-Bleckmann Edelstahlrohr GmbH (SBER) acts as independent company. The privatization of the company took place at the beginning of 1995.
Seamless towards success
is the slogan of a team of experienced executives, who acquired the company within the scope of a management buyout. With that, the foundations for a long-term secured future were laid.
From the beginning, the new owners followed a clear and successful strategy, which is based on high flexibility, first-class service, highest quality standard and absolute reliability. Thus an optimally dimensioned, competitive company was created, which on the one hand is small enough to act flexibly on the international market, and on the other hand is large enough, too, to correspond the wishes of all customers in the best possible way.
In 1999, the company was successfully integrated into the listed Tubacex S.A.. For the time being, this represents the completion of the success story for SBER. The strategic new orientation maintaining the complete independence as well as utilizing the synergies within the group, further enforced the competitiveness of the company.
In the seamless stainless steel tube sector, SBER is one of the most important production companies of the world and continues a long tradition, which the entrepreneurs Schoeller and Bleckmann established more than 130 years ago.
